Covid 19 - Why exercise is more important than ever...

Most people throughout the world are currently nervous about the potential impact of COVID-19, however, it’s now more important than ever to remind ourselves that we should still keep active for two key reasons...

  • We all understand that exercise supports our physical health, it can also help us fight off infection, however, during times of crisis such as this, it is the first activity we maybe don't prioritise or stop doing.

  • Exercise is also unique in that it can boost our mental health, and during this anxious time it’s more important than ever to keep our minds clear and focused.

Pilates in the Park, Yeronga Memorial Park - Wed & Fri @ 9.15am ($15)

When it comes to exercise, we are not just talking about young people. Actively ageing keeps our immune system, bones and muscles strong.  Sitting more, moving less leads to weakness, pain and general poor health at any age. So, keep moving and learn to move 'correctly'.

I have been teaching Pilates for over 20+ years to athletes, those suffering with injuries/conditions and the general population that just wants to stay healthy and active so they can enjoy time with their loved ones. Those who practice Pilates with me, know it helps keep their body balanced, co-ordinated, strong and mobile. My classes focus on improving weaknesses whilst are considerate of restrictions.

Injuries, pain and lack of knowledge do not mean you can't exercise - in my classes, I teach you how to adapt exercises so that you are suitably challenged for your current ability whilst continually developing your strength & movement.

Any age or ability level - all exercises can be adapted.

Covid has made many people nervous about attending a physical gym or exercise facility, so why not try outdoor alternatives instead of not doing anything at all. Over the past 5 years Pilates in the Park in Yeronga Memorial Park is held every Wednesday & Friday @ 9.15am. Being outside - you can physically distance, enjoy the fresh air and absorb all the natural benefits nature has to offer.

Exercise Top Tips:

  • Be aware of your own health. If you do have symptoms of COVID-19, please follow the Department of Health’s directions.
  • If you are nervous about attending an indoor facility, try some outdoor alternatives. Join us for Pilates in the Park or find a group in your own local park.
  • If you are in self-isolation, this doesn’t not mean you have to stop exercising. In fact, this is a great time to move more and keep your body and mind healthy. Try some online options!
  • Trust an accredited exercise professional who has the expertise and education to help you stay fit and healthy, and can work with you based on your current health and existing conditions.
