Is Poor Posture Causing Your Back Pain?

Did you know that bad posture causes the loads on your spine to disperse incorrectly, weakening the tissues in your lower back. As a result, the intricate network of muscles, discs, and joints in your back tend to be pushed beyond their tolerable limit, causing pain. Likewise, a sudden injury from lifting a heavy object incorrectly can cause immediate back pain and dysfunction.

Here are the most common back postures that lead to pain and actions you can take to correct them.

DIY Massage

a bit of self-care Feb 15, 2021

Hi folks

I looove a good massage. It’s probably my favourite form of self-care and it’s seriously one of the only ways I can get super relaxed. It sounds weird, but the more intense, the better.

But lately, my muscles have been BEGGING for some love. I normally see a massage therapist, but that hasn’t been happening thanks to my crazy busy schedule! I’ve tried asking Nick for a massage instead, but that lasts about two minutes and he usually ends up falling asleep.

Sooo on to Plan B. Self-massage!

Every body is different...personalise your Pilates workouts.

know your own body Feb 12, 2021

Pilates is a unique balance of strength, stretch, reach, contract and flow. Pilates is designed to make everything you are already doing in life better. The moves are not crazy, they are natural movements our bodies should be able to do.

Like most workouts and group classes it’s easy to do the movements but, unlike most workouts when you do Pilates exercises you need to feel them in the right places and not just go through the motions. Sometimes those 'right' places take time to activate correctly.

Why Practicing Pilates Outdoors is so great...

Practice Pilates Outdoors

One of the best things about Pilates is the ability to take your workout anywhere, and more specifically outside. We're talking, in the bush, beaches, parks, your own backyard, you name it.

Benefits of Pilates Outdoors...

1. The terrain pushes your boundaries
It's easy to get stuck in a routine, and taking Pilates outside helps get you out of that rut. Outdoor Pilates challenges you with uneven ground and varying surfaces.

2. You'll feel connected to your environment & neighbourhood...

The Foot To Core Connection

Have you heard of The Foot To Core Connection?

First things first. In the human body, we have 206 muscles, all of which are surrounded by a special type of tissue called fascia. Think of fascia as a type of “cling wrap” that connects every muscle in your body together — from bottom to top.  It is this web-like tissue that connects the muscles of your feet to the muscles of your deep core — or pelvic floor — establishing what’s called the “foot to core connection”.
